Katie Bender Named Director of Marketing and Communications at UAA

The University of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃAnchorage has appointed Katie Bender, MPA ’10, as the new Director of Marketing and Communications, effective February 25, 2025.
Bender brings 19 years of experience in communications, including leadership roles at the Red Cross of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃand Northrim Bank. Her expertise spans a wide range of marketing and communications functions, with a strong background in supervising and mentoring teams. For nearly 15 years, she has managed team development, recruitment, and strategic motivation.
At Northrim Bank, Bender worked closely with executive leadership to craft internal and external messaging. She has led strategic communications programs, collaborated on diverse teams, and managed high-level projects with precision. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she played a key role in the Paycheck Protection Program, overseeing loan forgiveness and leading a team of employees and interns. She has also contributed to confidential projects involving event planning and product launches.
With extensive experience in brand development and dynamic communication strategies, Bender has been actively engaged in both professional and volunteer leadership roles. As a member of the UAA Alumni Association board, she has supported initiatives that enhance the university’s reputation and impact.
