Doug Schrage wins statewide fire chief award

Douglas Schrage, UAF’s fire chief, is this year’s recipient of the Warren B. Cummings Fire Chief of the Year Award. Schrage received the award in early February at the ½ûÂþÌìÌÃFire Chiefs Leadership Symposium in Juneau.
The award is given to leaders who are devoted to operational improvements with a focus on safety and technology, program development, and community involvement. Other attributes considered are statewide involvement that enhances the mission of fire services in Alaska.
Schrage began his career as a student firefighter at UAF. He earned an associate degree in fire service administration from UAF, and holds a bachelor’s degree in the same field from Western Oregon and a master’s degree in fire and emergency management from Oklahoma State.
