  • UAS Sitka Campus Director Leslie Gordon to take new position

    Leslie Gordon, Sitka Campus Director for the University of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃSoutheast (UAS) will be leaving her position in early December. She has accepted a position with the Southeast Regional Health Consortium in Sitka as the Director of Performance Improvement.

    Ingman plans to use the $7,500 award to advance his knowledge and performance by studying with a champion piper and traveling to piper gatherings

  • Steve Patin to lead Human Resources at the University of Alaska

    University of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃPresident Jim Johnsen announced today that Steven J. Patin has been named Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) for the university and will assume his new position on Oct. 25. Patin, who succeeds Keli Hite-McGee, currently is vice president at ½ûÂþÌìÌÃCommunications overseeing all aspects of the company's customer service functions. He leads the field operations, information technology, and the corporate program management teams.

  • Peter Stortz named to 4-H Hall of Fame

    October 10, 2019

    Retired Palmer 4-H agent Peter Stortz will be inducted into the National 4-H Hall of Fame on Oct. 11, becoming the sixth Alaskan to receive that honor. The Hall of Fame recognizes 4-H volunteers, Cooperative Extension Service professionals, staff and others who made a significant impact on the 4-H youth program at the local, state or national level.

    Stephen Jewett wins diving lifetime achievement award

    Stephen C. Jewett will receive the 2019 American Academy of Underwater Sciences Scientific Diving Lifetime Achievement award. Jewett is a research professor emeritus at the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences. He retired in 2015 after 42 years of service.

  • Founder of the ½ûÂþÌìÌÃNative Language Center Michael Krauss honored with memorial on Sept. 22

    The University of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃFairbanks professor who literally put ½ûÂþÌìÌÃNative languages on the map passed away last month near his son's house outside of Boston. Michael Kruass was one of the world's foremost scholars of ½ûÂþÌìÌÃNative languages and their history and structure.
